Somerset Levels - introduction to the wetlands
A report about the saturated land of the low-lying Somerset Levels. A visit to the Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve shows the variety of animals that have adapted to the wetland weather. The report explains how humans have built settlements on high ground away from flooded land. Footage is shown of the wooded track made by Stone Age people to keep dry. The importance of peat for fuel and fertilisers is also discussed.
