Crime writer Martina Cole speaks to Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray about the appeal of her bad boy criminal characters and the importance of strong females in her books. Martina’s nineteenth novel The Life has just been published and focuses on the criminal life of the Bailey brothers in 1970s East End London. Martina talks to Jenni about living with crime on her doorstep as a child and how she had to grow up fast when she gave birth to her son at age sixteen.
