Alfie Boe: Opera establishment is ‘like a spoilt kid’

Opera singer Alfie Boe speaks to Front Row’s John Wilson about his dislike of some of the most established opera houses in the country, which he sees as no better than the smaller venues he grew up singing in near his hometown of Blackpool. He discusses his brutally honest autobiography My Story, in which he describes his rise to singing stardom from his beginnings as a car mechanic through to being trained at the Royal Opera House and the English National Opera where he fought against the expectations of the opera big wigs.
