Ship breaking and its issues
A report about the rise of ship breaking and the issues this causes. The North East used to be a place where ships were built, but more recently ships are being brought here at the end of their working lives to be broken up. Hartlepool is the location of several rusting ghost ships, which have caused conflict between local industry and some environmental campaigners. Many ships are dismantled in less developed countries, where environmental and social issues are often given less consideration.
