Queen’s visit draws foreign press
On the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee visit to NI, Patrick Burns interviews John Apple (New York Times), Volker Kramer from West Germany (Stern magazine) and Claude Caignaire from France. All are anticipating some trouble arising from the Queen’s visit. John Apple in particular refers to two anniversaries that traditionally lead to conflict in early August – he is probably alluding to protestant marches in memory of the relief of the siege of Derry and the republican commemorations of the introduction of internment in 1971.
