Maintaining peace in Asia
Professor Alastair Buchan explores the geo-politics of Asia and the Middle East in his fifth Reith lecture entitled 'Maintaining peace in Asia'.
Alastair Francis Buchan, the Montague Burton Professor of International Relations for Oxford University, explores the political agendas of Asia in his fifth Reith lecture. Speaking from his series entitled 'Change without War', he reflects on Asian international relations.
In this lecture entitled 'Maintaining peace in Asia', Professor Alastair Buchan continues to explore the geo-politics of the Sino-Soviet relationship. He questions America's ability to avoid interfering in the balance of power between China and the Soviet Union and yet reminds us that the prospect of change without war in Asia depends crucially on the policies of the external powers. He analyses how the West's interaction with Asia has affected the geo-political relationship with the Middle East, and reflects on the new balance of power between the oil states and the West.
