2011 marks the 400th anniversary of a book once declared, by American President Teddy Roosevelt as "a Magna Carta for the poor and oppressed: the most democratic book in the world." It is a book that helped found the idea of Britain, and some argue that it encapsulates Britain's national identity and values, yet it is read across the world.
