Jackie Morrison visits Sam Wallace
Jackie Morrison pays a visit to her friend Sam Wallace in his home which looks out towards Slemish and they talk about the skills required for good stone walling. Sam talks about his sheepdog. They also talk about Sam’s Ulster-Scots way of talking. (Broadcast: 3 Nov 2007)
Wilbert Magill has written a poem, based on a true incident that took place in Newtownards Harvest Fair about 100 years ago: it’s called ‘William James’ Unicorn’. And we have an older poem, written by David Herbison, The Bard of Dunclug, called ‘The Group’ about a bunch of friends coming together for a bit of crack in Sam McGuffin’s Kitchen. The poem has been set to music by local band, Ailsa.
We close the programme with a poem from Wilson Burgess - Oot o the Bottle - about the results of a trip to a hairdresser….
