Eighteen Miles to Freedom
We’re on the trail of James Hamilton and Hugh Montgomery, two Ayrshire lairds who settled in the Ards 400 years ago, and whose anniversary is being celebrated with a variety of events.
We begin the programme at the Web Theatre in Newtownards with a new play ‘18 Miles to Freedom’ put on by Valhalla Street Theatre.
We hear a couple of extracts from the play: and Chairman of the Ulster-Scots Agency, Mark Thompson, tells Liam Logan about his interest in the story.
Lord and Lady Montgomery (a.k.a. Harry Hamilton and Rea McMaster) describe the work they’ve put into the play. (Broadcast: 7 Jun 2006)
