But for more than a century, the names of two men who died, were missed off the landmark at Coombe Hill near Wendover.
Their names are now being added to a new bronze plaque, and other spelling mistakes are being corrected.
Simon spoke to retired Lieutenant Colonel Ingram Murray, a local historian from Stewkley, Mark Bailey from the restoration for Bucks County Council and Retired Major-General Stuart Watson, chairman of the Coombe Hill Monument Appeal Committee.
