Forest fieldcraft
The roe deer are not up early, they鈥檙e out late - because they would have been feeding in the forest at night and they鈥檙e just having a final snack before they merge into the trees. It鈥檚 as if they were never there. One has just got those little tiny bumps on its head, not exactly magnificent antlers. The fieldcraft? If you want to get a glimpse of deer - or in fact most things in the forest - get up early, stay very, very quiet, and find somewhere where your silhouette isn鈥檛 visible, which isn鈥檛 difficult in the forest as you鈥檝e nearly always got a background of something. Don鈥檛 move around quickly and try and stay downwind. Basically, downwind means that the wind is coming towards you, so the deer can鈥檛 smell you, and theoretically you could smell the deer.
