The goshawk chicks being filmed 12 metres up a tree are growing and becoming more confident. They depend on the female to tear up their prey for them. What does the difference in size between the chicks mean for their feeding? Simon King and the Springwatch team have watched and analysed who gets what for one meal. The big chick gets the lion's share of the meal. The little chick is weaker so will lose out when the two battle to get what's offered. By the time the big chick is fully sated he's had 153 mouthfuls. The little chick can now get to everything that's left, but there isn't much. Final result - little chick 98 mouthfuls, big chick 153. So the little chick is getting enough, but it's significantly less than its sibling.
