How do you find out how old the earth is? A great eighteenth century experimenter, Comte de Buffon, came up with an ingenious way of calculating its age by using several metal balls, a pocket watch and an extremely hot furnace. Michael Mosley heads to a blacksmith鈥檚 forge to try it for himself.
