Contemporary and classic tracks from around the world. Playlist at bbcworldservice.com

Tango may have started in South America but it has a following, and local flavours, all over the world. Trio Obscur brings a Central European mix of precision and decadence to the tradition. A bit further East, enigmatic duo Dva continues to confound expectations: their previous track on Charlie’s playlist took us to the vicinity of Greenland, this week we are transported to Latvia… or perhaps not.

A real rarity next: Omar Souleyman is a Syrian singer, much in demand for weddings and other celebrations. But the hundreds of cassettes which he has produced are seldom found beyond the country’s borders: cue intrepid American sound collectors calling themselves Sublime Frequencies.

The sound of Odadewethu immediately conjures up warm images of South Africa and at home their albums reach gold and platinum status. But will their most recent release be a passport to a wider recognition? Plus another chance to hear Puerto Rican band Calle 13 teaming up with popular Panamanian singer turned politician.
