Episode 11
Officers struggle to police youngsters drinking to excess during Bermuda’s biggest party of the year, and a man is arrested at the airport for importing cannabis.
The biggest event of the year has arrived in Bermuda as Somerset take on bitter cricketing rivals St George’s. Day one of Cup Match also heralds the start of a nationwide party – bringing its own unique set of challenges for the island’s overstretched police service.
Officers Imani Scott and Daischon Chin are on patrol at the lively cricket stadium, keeping revellers in line. Meanwhile, at Horse Shoe Bay on the south coast of the island, hordes of youngsters have gathered to enjoy sun, sea, sand and music at Beach Fest. The notorious event requires the police to remain vigilant to the dangers of underage drinkers.
It’s a big challenge for new recruit Holly Lavigne-Smith. The former nurse from Britain has recently qualified as a police constable and has heard that the event is a baptism of fire for rookie officers. We later see Holly and her colleagues struggle to deal with an apparent fight between two drunks.
Whilst the party is in full swing at the beach and cricket stadium, the police still need to remain alert to crime on the rest of the island. Officers Shandora Burrows and Bryden Pedro are on traffic patrol, keeping motorists safe, whilst constables Duval Robinson and Derek Simmons urgently need to rush to the airport to arrest an American caught importing more than 100 grams of cannabis.
