Episode 4
A former British nurse hopes to survive tough police training to fulfil her dream of becoming a qualified constable, and an officer finally finds love.
It鈥檚 a big day at police training for 14 new recruits hoping to make it into the ranks of the Bermuda Police Service. Hopefuls hailing from across the globe have applied, including UK-born Holly Lavigne-Smith. Holly used to work for the NHS and now lives in Bermuda with her husband. She is seeking to pursue a new career on the island, saying she was a paediatric nurse at Bristol Children鈥檚 Hospital, but she's always dreamed of being in the police.
Qualifying as an officer, however, won鈥檛 be easy, as no-nonsense police instructor Brian Macnab puts the rookies through their paces during tough public disturbance training. Wearing full body gear and carrying heavy riot shields results in some of the rookies wilting in the 35-degree heat and high humidity. But Holly proves she has what it takes and successfully completes her training to become a qualified police constable.
In the capital city of Hamilton, we find officers Chris Douglas and Nick Akle. We follow the pair as they respond to reports of a man acting suspiciously and possibly taking drugs at a location near the police station. The man turns out to have history with the force and is well known to officer Assad, who gives him some friendly advice before encouraging him to move on before getting into further trouble.
Officer Jonathan Wood is policing the island's roads with his colleague Sasha Franks when they spot a man using his phone whilst riding a moped. After stopping the motorist and questioning his risky behaviour, the constables discover he also has his four-year-old daughter on board. It鈥檚 a tricky situation, but Officer Wood decides against ticketing the motorist and instead issues an advice notice to encourage him to become more aware of road safety.
Away from the front line, a British officer nicknamed Woody has struggled to find love during his eight years on the island, but today he鈥檚 welcoming his new girlfriend to Bermuda. Daniele is from Peru, and Woody has decided to charm his new partner with a romantic boat cruise around the stunning coastline.
