Should UK and Europe put their money where their mouth is regarding defence spending?

As European leaders prepare for emergency talks in Paris, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he's ready to put UK peacekeeping troops in Ukraine.
The UK government has also promised to "set out a path" to spend 2.5% of GDP on defence. But there is no timescale for when that target would be reached.
And there have been calls from military chiefs to go much further than 2.5%. Donald Trump himself has talked about 5%.
Is it time the UK and Europe put its money where its mouth is when it comes to defence spending ?
