Chilled dance
Pete takes us on a journey through the ages of chilled dance and electronica.
Chill Out is an ever evolving, loosely defined genre. The label came from the concept of ‘Chill-out’ rooms in nightclubs where ravers could go to unwind after dancing to faster paced sets. The sound grew from Easy Listening and electronic producer like Brian Eno and The Orb.
By the early 1990s the influences led to a genres like Ambient House, Trip Hop and Downtempo electronica. Ibiza cafe’s like Mambo and Cafe Del Mar played chilled music to soundtrack the sunset. Soon compilation albums were made to reflect the DJ selections and ‘Chill-out’ became its own genre.
Pete takes us on a journey through the ages of chilled dance with electronica with music spanning the decades, from the sci-fi synth soundtracks of the 80s to current artists like Bicep, Fred again.. and Rampa. Sian Eleri also picks a chilled dance anthem and we relive Robyn’s live performance recorded in Ibiza.
