Music, chat and Richard Dawson

Mark and Stuart present a feast of great music, plus Richard Dawson shares his 鈥楩irst, Last and Everything鈥 and chats about his forthcoming new album.

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.

Today they are joined by singer-songwriter Richard Dawson. Richard shares his 鈥楩irst, Last and Everything鈥 - that鈥檚 his first record, the most recent one he's enjoyed and the record that means 鈥榚verything鈥 to him. He also chats about his forthcoming new album 鈥楨nd of the Middle鈥 which is set for release on Valentine鈥檚 Day.

Richard, who recently supported Mitski on tour, became a fixture in the underground folk scene with his distinctive blend of traditional English folk music, Sacred Harp-kissed North Country blues, jazzy psych-folk, and progressive rock.

The new album is partly inspired by his love of the films of Japanese director Yasujir艒 Ozu, and focuses around a family unit. 鈥淚t zooms in quite close-up to try and explore a typical middle class English family home,鈥 Richard says. 鈥淲e're listening to the stories of people from three or four generations of perhaps the same family. But really, it鈥檚 about how we break certain cycles. I think the family is a useful metaphor to examine how things are passed on generationally.鈥

Also on the show... long-running feature 鈥楾he Chain鈥 which gives listeners the chance to pick a track that links in some way to the last. The list now contains over 8000 songs.

With a selection of music old and new to get the weekend started.
