Music, chat and Dennis Bovell

Stuart Maconie presents a feast of great music and legendary producer Dennis Bovell shares his 'First, Last and Everything' and talks about his new compilation album.

Stuart Maconie presents solo, with a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.

Today he's joined by legendary producer Dennis Bovell. Dennis became a key figure in London's reggae scene in the late '70s and early '80s working as a solo artist, musician and producer. He co-founded seven-piece reggae band Matumbi, and helped shape the sound of the Lovers Rock genre, producing and writing songs for artists including Janet Kay's 1979 hit single 'Silly Games.' As well as his long-time collaboration with dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, Dennis has worked with a wide range of bands and artists including The Slits, Orange Juice, Fela Kuti, Bananarama and Rihanna.

Dennis shares his ‘First, Last and Everything’ - that’s his first record, the most recent one he's enjoyed and the record that means ‘everything’ to him - and he chats to Stuart about his latest compilation album.

Also on the show... long-running feature ‘The Chain’ which gives listeners the chance to pick a track that links in some way to the last. The list now contains over 8000 songs

With a selection of music old and new to get the weekend started.
