Black History Month: Ballroom & Vogue

SHERELLE pays homage to the fundamentally Black, Latinx and queer sound of ballroom in her third Black History Month special. Featuring music from B. Ames, MikeQ and Kevin Aviance.

In the third and final show in SHERELLE's celebration of Black History Month on 成人快手 6 Music, she pays homage to the culture of ballroom. Ballroom, a musical genre created by Black, Latinx and queer individuals in 20th century New York, is a central pillar in Black music. It is arguably one of the most influential musical genres to exist. Its sound has been used, sampled and echoed throughout 21st century pop music, dance music and beyond.

The lexicon used in ballroom, although mature and explicit, is largely responsible for today鈥檚 popular lingo in queer (and pop) culture. This is explored closely in the show. Despite its explicit nature, ballroom is an essential part of Black and queer history. It is an expression, culture and dance built by America鈥檚 underclass, providing a space where one can realise a fantasy, cultivate community, and be themselves. Featuring music from B.
