Mozart from the Edinburgh International Festival
Celebrating Scotland's classical world. Jamie MacDougall introduces a concert of Mozart given by the principals of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at this year's Edinburgh Festival
In August, the world descended on Edinburgh for another month of cultural festivities. Away from the chaos of the crowds, buskers and hustlers, the Queen's Hall hosts its series of morning classical concerts which are a veritable oasis of calm.
The principal players of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra were joined by their charismatic conductor Maxim Emelyanychev - this time at the keyboard rather than the podium, for a vibrant programme of Mozart. Jamie MacDougall, brings us highlights from that concert which includes the Trio for Piano, Clarinet and Viola in E flat - the so called Kegelstatt trio because it was conceived in a skittle hall in Vienna!
While the festival in Edinburgh is over, there are still plenty of cultural events and festivals happening all over Scotland; Jamie brings news of the Findhorn Bay Festival and Sonica 2024, the genre defying celebration of audio visual art.
Elsewhere on the programme, the University of Glasgow Chapel Choir is in fine voice on their latest album of sacred choral music and we listen to a recent release from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
