As well as enjoying the colours, smells and designs of the gardens, Mairi finds out about the science and conservation work being done at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Logan, the royal history at Floors Castle and the topiary at Levens Hall in Cumbria.
In this programme, Mairi travels to Levens Hall Gardens, home to the oldest topiary in the world. Mairi finds out about the various names and designs of the stunning topiary before having a go at pruning some of it herself. She also has a game of bowls with head gardener, Chris Crowder, on one of the oldest greens in the country. Tèarlach Quinnell tells us about the importance of pruning.
