Terry in Belfast has a poser about the Johnny Cash song, 40 Shades of Green: what, exactly, is Shalimar?

β€œI was listening to that lovely song, 40 Shades of Green,” says Terry in Belfast. β€œBut there is one word in it that puzzles many people: Shalimar.”
β€œWhere does that come in?” Sean asks. β€œIs it a place? 'Where the breeze is sweet as Shalimar and there’s forty shades of green...'”
β€œI think Shalimar,” says Olive in Belfast, β€œis a tree which has a lovely sweet scent.”
β€œTo put you out of your misery,” says Terry in Belfast, β€œaccording to Johnny Cash, Shalimar was the name of the first perfume he bought his wife.”
β€œI have some more information for you about Shalimar perfume,” says Sheila. β€œIt was brought out in the 1920s, and it was called the Bad Girl's perfume. It was loved by the flapper girls. In those days it was said that there were three things that ladies never did - smoked, dance the tango, or wear Shalimar. I have a bottle.”
β€œSheila,” Sean says, β€œyou’re my type of girl!”
