Canoe

Episode 13 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a 15ft canoe, an iconic bookcase and some pottery.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's new home in Edinburgh, where they try to ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is apprentice gas engineer Dannii with a skip find that she thought was worth salvaging. Concealed inside her mysterious wooden box is a vintage chlorine tester – once used by the water board to test chlorine levels in drinking water. What price will the dealers put on this life-saving piece of equipment?

Coming ashore at our Edinburgh HQ next are James and his wife, Wilma. James has got a two-seater canoe that has been in his family for generations but hasn’t seen the water for 15 years.

Third to arrive is Paula, with a space-saving piece of furniture once loved by her mother, but the 1950s piece doesn’t suit Paula’s modern home. Will any of the dealers give it a second chance and re-home it?

Fourth in is communications expert Monica. Simon shares his extensive knowledge about West German pottery with her, but Monica knows just how to encourage the dealers to bid on an item that she’s cherished for years.

Finally, Gordon arrives at the Bidding Room to present an iconic piece of design that was destined for disaster at his local recycling centre. He rescued the penguin donkey bookcase for the price of just £5. Will the dealers and design enthusiasts see the value in the piece?

The dealers today are Ian, Estelle, Moses, Lucy and JB.
