South Asia (From The UK Diaspora to India)

Exploring the sounds of South Asia through the diaspora with Ahadadream, Naina, Priya Ragu, Josh De Silva, Yung Singh, Samrai, Hu-Sane, YNZN.P, Sandunes, and Kiss Nuka.

In Jamz Supernova鈥檚 Global Sounds, Jamz dives into a music scene from around the world to uncover a place's unique identity and music. She speaks to artists and creatives to find out what their particular scene looks, sounds and feels like on the ground.

In this episode, Jamz explores the South Asian diaspora, from Dialled In to Daytimers making waves on dance floors and festival line-ups in the UK and beyond. Jamz chats with international DJ Ahadadream, who shares stories about being born in Pakistan to building a community of creative minds from the South Asian diaspora in the UK. And there are words from Yung Singh, who launched his event Ekta, with an intergenerational all-South Asian line-up covering an eclectic array of dance music. Then, Jamz chats with the exciting talent Kiss Nuka to get a gauge of how the diaspora is received and recognised in the motherland. Also, there are words from DJ, broadcaster and label owner Naina, Manchester-based DJ and producer Samrai, Glasgow-based DJ Hu-Sane, Swiss/Tamil artist Priya Ragu, DJ and Booking Agent Josh De Silva, Nepalese DJ YNZN.P and LA-based Indian artist Sandunes.

Across the four-part series, Jamz will be exploring themes and music from South Africa (from Kwaito to Amapiano), South Asia (tracing the roots through the diaspora on dancefloors across the world), French Creole (Martinique, Guadeloupe and surrounding areas - looking at how the music has transported, been remixed and is being celebrated in the diasporas in Europe), and Barranquilla Carnival: Colombia (taking a deep dive into one of Colombia's most important folkloric celebrations, and one of the biggest carnivals in the world).
