Gary Davies sits in and Boy George Chooses his Tracks Of My Years
Boy George is the special guest on this week's Tracks Of My Years, plus there's record and album of the week and, of course, the mid-morning music quiz Ten To The Top.
Gary Davies sits in whilst Vernon's away and Boy George - the Grammy, Brit and Ivor Novello award-winning lead singer of Culture Club - takes us on a ten song journey through his life this week – pop star, fashion icon and arguably the A-Team's greatest ever guest star!
As the frontman of Culture Club, Boy George was at the centre of one of the biggest bands in the world in the early 80s. Being part of Band Aid cemented them as a band that broke down barriers and left a huge legacy for the stars that came later, before they disbanded in 1986.
In their time together they sold 150 million records worldwide and were particularly successful in the USA, notching up ten top 40 hits. Away from Culture Club George has enjoyed a successful career as both a solo artist and a DJ, and has also starred in theatre, television (hello The A Team!) and ran his own fashion label.
Now he's releasing what he calls his 'definitive autobiography' called 'Karma', which tells the story from the early days of his music career in the 70s and 80s, through the hedonism of the 80s and 90s, through to the resurgence he's enjoying in present day.
Boy George’s next two choices are from Gladys Knight and the Pips and Elvis.
Plus there's the mid-morning music quiz, Ten To The Top. Whatever you're up to, Gary wants to hear from you. And if you’d like to apply to take part in Ten To The Top, the address you need is tentothetop@bbc.co.uk
