Episode 4 of 12

Fraser and Carianne head to the mainland to buy new tups. The Barclay family prepare their sheep for the Lanark Winter Show, while Nikki and Ollie try their hand at farming rabbits.

Winter is looming in Scotland. And while many are battening down the hatches and keeping warm, farmers are still outside caring for their livestock and making preparations for the year ahead. In North Uist, Fraser and Carianne set off for the mainland to sell their own tups and buy new ones ready for mating season. They don’t always agree on which is best, and the best don’t always prove their worth.

In South Ayrshire, the Barclay family have always been keen competitors at agricultural shows. They are readying their best sheep for the Lanark Winter Show, with a lesson from dad John in how to prim and preen the perfect ewe before the boys take them into the ring, hoping for a rosette.

At Thorabella Farm in Moray, intrepid entrepreneurs Nikki and Ollie begin their latest venture – farming rabbits to sell to a local hotel restaurant. They are new to keeping rabbits, and finding out the sex of the breeding stock proves a challenge.
