Bogside bonfire 'could be replaced'

A controversial bonfire in the Bogside in Derry could be cancelled and replaced with a music event, according to an SDLP councillor.

It dominated the headlines and has been linked to violence and anti-social behaviour, including attacks on the police. But now a controversial bonfire in the Bogside could be replaced by a music festival. A council motion calling for funding for a music event on 15th August received unanimous support. Lilian Seenoi Barr, an SDLP councillor who is chair of the council's Bonfire Working Group, tells The North West Today the plan followed talks between residents and young people about the future of the annual bonfire in Meenan Square.
