Legendary hip hop producer DJ Premier joins Lauren ahead of 6 Music's Hip Hop Forever celebrations this summer, marking fifty years since the birth of the genre. For five weeks from 15th July every Saturday we'll be celebrating each decade with Huey Morgan, Jamz Supernova and Gilles Peterson.

DJ Premier was one half of US rap group Gang Starr from 1989 until the passing of rapper Guru in 2010, with a final posthumous album later released in 2019. He now performs with Royce Da 5'9'' as PRhyme as well as producing and collaborating with a wide range of artists. Over the years he's worked with the greatest musicians in hip hop and RnB including Common, Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, Eminem, Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Method Man and many more. This year DJ Premier is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Gang Starr's 2003 album The Ownerz.
