"Take your bottle of water with you when you're walking," says Avril the gas woman. "It's absolutely roasting out there!"

"It absolutely is," Sean says. "Everyone's got to be careful. This weather came at us like a ton of bricks. Like two men and a wee boy!"

Sean plays a slow song, Love Letters in the Sand by Pat Boone, and explains: "It's so warm, we can't have people running about and jiving, twisting and hopping and bopping. But you can get a basin of water, take your shoes and socks off, and put your feet into a basin of water, and sit and twiddle your toes, to this."
