Anonymous Penguins, Nightjars and the Alford Valley Community Railway

Mark interviews an anonymous artist disguised as a penguin, at the Kelvin Walkway in Glasgow.

A gaggle of sheep sculptures are touring the UK, in celebration of the return of the Golden Shears World Sheep Shearing & Woolhandling Championships at the Royal Highland Show. Rachel met with Ali Caufield from the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and artist Charlotte Brayley, to talk about the sculptures.

Mark spent an afternoon with researcher Emilia Johnson, to learn about how acoustic monitoring can help to inform us of threats to wildlife in advance- and even gauge, using sound, whether there is a risk of animal diseases passing on to humans.

The once abandoned Alford Valley Community Railway is undergoing a major transformation, as a team of volunteers get the line fit for service once more. Mark enjoys a day out at the railway, to see the locomotive makeover first hand.

We chat with beekeeper Gavin Ramsay about honeybee communication, as swarming season gets underway.

An injured Nightjar has been picked up in north east Scotland, and is being cared for at the New Arc facility near Ellon. Rachel visits the invalid, and chats with Morgane Ristic and Paul Reynolds about how it came into their care.
