with Cathy Macdonald
Who does a culture of silence serve and how to break through it; the religious history and symbolism of the coronation service; and how do we make sense of coincidence?
As violence continues in Sudan, there are growing concerns over the humanitarian crisis. Cathy Macdonald speaks to Aberdeen teacher Romisa Albashir, part of the Sudanese diaspora, about her worries for the safety of loved ones. And James Wani, Christian Aid’s Country Director in South Sudan, explains what’s happening at the border between the two countries, where many are trying to escape the violence in Sudan.
Cathy looks ahead to the coronation of King Charles III and explores the religious history and symbolism of the coronation service, with Professor Ian Bradley, author of the new book, God Save the King: The Sacred Nature of the Monarchy.
How does slowing down after the loss of a loved one help us face the sadness? Cathy attempts to demystify death with authors of 'slow down when someone dies', Kate Clark and Lin Carruthers, from the organisation Pushing up the Daisies.
Do we still have a culture of silence in Britain today, and if so, who does it serve and why is it so difficult to break through? Cathy discusses with Luke Devlin, Director of the Centre for Human Ecology, and Nasar Meer, professor of Sociology at the University of Edinburgh.
Luke Delvin gives his thoughts on The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry; a new film featuring Jim Broadbent, who plays an old man who embarks on an epic journey of redemption.
Writer and broadcaster Anna Magnusson shares the music that inspires her, and the story of the teacher who introduced her to it.
How do we make sense of coincidence – is it a random act with no rhyme nor reason, or a moment of hidden synchronicity in the cosmos? Cathy explores with Psychologist and host of the ‘On Your Mind’ podcast, Richard Wiseman, and Luke Devlin, member of the Catholic Workers Movement.
