with Cathy Macdonald
Two hours of music and conversation with a faith and ethical perspective. Taking the week's events to ask what they say about our values and beliefs.
A good spring clean can not only transform the space around you, but can have a psychological effect too. And it doesn’t just have to be a physical cleansing, a spiritual spring clean is just as essential for many. Dr Emma Hepburn, Clinical Psychologist, and Islamic academic Yahya Barry tell us more.
As social creatures, humans rely on communication to establish and maintain relationships. However, with the advent of digital technology, how have our methods of communication changed and what impact has it had on our relationships? Cathy explores this with Professor of Sociology at the Open University, Jacqui Gibb, and Dr. Emma Hepburn.
One hundred years ago this month, the SS Metagama departed Stornoway bound for Canada, with 300 emigrants from Lewis on board. This was followed by an even greater wave of emigration from the Outer Hebrides. Writer Donald S Murray tells Cathy about the impact this had on the islands, and shares a new theatre production to commemorate the anniversary, "In the Wake of Metagama - An Atlantic Odyssey in Story and Song".
David Baddiel, comedian and author, discusses his lack of belief in God, despite having a deep yearning for one to exist; the subject of his new book, The God Desire.
As new live-action film ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ is released, Cathy finds out how important play is, not just for children but for adults too, with Marguerite Hunter Blair, Chief Executive of Play Scotland, and teacher and storyteller Fergus McNicol.
It may not be as popular as it once was, but marriage is still an important ritual for many. Author Rachael Lennon talks about her new book 'Wedded Wife: a feminist history of marriage', exploring the changes and challenges of marriage over the centuries.
