The Revd Dr Jennie Hurd
A service led by the Revd Dr Jennie Hurd, a District Chair of the bilingual Synod of the Methodist Church in Wales, who recalls events on the road to Emmaus on the first Easter Day.
鈥淎re you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?鈥
In our service today, the Revd Dr Jennie Hurd winds the clock back to the first Easter Day. Two followers of Jesus are returning to their home in the village of Emmaus, about seven miles west of Jerusalem. They were unsure 鈥 possibly unaware 鈥 that Jesus had risen from the dead, and were weary and fearful following the events of Good Friday and Jesus鈥 crucifixion. As they walked along, talking about all that had happened of late, someone they initially didn鈥檛 recognize joined them for the journey and the conversation. This stranger seemed to be unaware of the events of the past few days.
We hear the biblical account of the events on the road to Emmaus taken from Luke鈥檚 Gospel chapter 24 from verse 18.
Hymns include 鈥淭he Day of Resurrection鈥, 鈥淥n the journey to Emmaus鈥 and 鈥淎lleluia alleluia, hearts to heaven and voices raise鈥.
The evening edition of the programme includes My Favourite Hymn.
