Today he celebrates the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.鈥檚 debut album Murmur, which was originally released on 12th April 1983.
At the time of its release, 鈥楳urmur鈥� drew critical acclaim for its unusual sound, defined by lead singer Michael Stipe's cryptic & sometimes unintelligible lyrics, guitarist Peter Buck's jangly guitar style, and bass guitarist Mike Mills鈥� melodic basslines.
One of the acclaimed American college alt-rock albums of the time, Mark plays some of his favourite tracks from it and discusses the band鈥檚 sound and success.
