Trevor Nelson's Country Soul

成人快手 Radio 2's Trevor Nelson explores the sometimes surprising links between country music and soul, R'n'B and reggae.

Country has a closer relationship with soul, R'n'B and even reggae than many people realise. Over the years, it's shared many of the same songwriters, studios and musicians, as well as the universal stories of love, work, struggle and relationships gone bad.

成人快手 Radio 2's King of Soul Trevor Nelson explores the country-soul crossover for Radio 2 Country, playing soul versions of country classics by the likes of Al Green, Esther Philips, Percy Sledge, The Supremes, and Candi Staton, to name just a few.

He'll also take a look at some unlikely country albums recorded by some of the all-time soul greats. including Bobby Womack and Ray Charles, whose pioneering album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music blurred the lines between country and soul forever.

Country music has always been huge in Jamaica as well, with countless reggae covers of big country hits; even original tracks from artists as unlikely as Jim Reeves and Shania Twain are regularly played in the heaviest Jamaican reggae venues.

Add in Willie Nelson's perhaps ill-advised attempt at a reggae album, and it's a fascinating alternative take on a little discussed side of the music.
