Hamish Hawk joins Steve to chat about his brand new album Angel Numbers. The album is produced by Idlewild鈥檚 Rod Jones, who also worked on Hamish's 2021 LP Heavy Elevator.
Speaking on Angel Numbers, which was written before Heavy Elevator but recorded after its release, Hamish says 鈥淎ngel Numbers is the only album I鈥檝e ever recorded in the shadow of a vaguely successful record. I鈥檝e sold records before, at my merch table. There鈥檚 been all these brilliant opportunities I鈥檝e had, like touring with King Creosote and Idlewild, but it鈥檚 been modest in every sense. That was fine. Whereas this is three singles on 6Music, and these tours up and down every nook and cranny in the country that have gone so well. People sing the songs back to you, which is bizarre! Someone sent me a T-shirt that her boyfriend had bought from one of the gigs so that I could write 鈥楬appy Birthday鈥, sign it, and send it back to her.鈥
The album was written in lockdown during a time of great productivity. Hamish says: 鈥淭here was a two week period where we were writing a song a day, which is just ridiculous for me, because I draft and redraft. It鈥檚 frightening to do that, but I ended up being less precious.鈥
All this alongside brand new music from Coach Party and Squid.
