Album of the Week and Dermot Kennedy
Singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy picks his Tracks of My Years. Plus Ken's got another round of PopMaster, and there's your dedications with today's Love Song.
Singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy - whose hits include 'Power Over Me' and 'Outnumbered' - picks his Tracks of My Years all this week.
Hailing from Dublin, Dermot started his musical journey as a ten-year-old, but he only began to take it seriously in his teens when he started writing songs, eventually releasing the EP 'Dancing Under Red Skies' in 2013.
In 2016 his single ‘After Rain’ found viral success amassing millions of streams, and his 2019 debut album 'Without Fear' became a global success, reaching number one in Ireland and the UK. It’s now sold over 1.5m copies and was also the biggest-selling album of the millennium by an Irish artist.
His popularity grew in the late 2010s with 'Power Over Me' and 'Outnumbered'. In January 2020, Dermot was nominated for international Male Solo Artist of the year at the BRIT Awards.
After appearing on the 2021 Meduza hit 'Paradise', he returned with the singles 'Better Days', which won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2021, and 'Something to Someone', the lead single from his new album 'Sonder'.
He’s just played a run of outdoor headline shows in Ireland to over 100,000 fans, and Dermot is also simultaneously busking across the world with his own Sonder Street Sessions. Cities visited thus far include Mexico City, Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia.
Dermot's next two choices come from David Gray and Damien Rice.
Plus Ken's got another round of the legendary PopMaster music quiz and your dedications with today's love song. There's also the record and album of the week.
