On the 20th anniversary of it's release, Steve Lamacq plays The Libertines' ground-breaking 2002 debut album Up The Bracket in full as part of the 6 Music Album Club.

Released on this day in 2002, via Rough Trade Records, the album was produced by Mick Jones of The Clash and reached only No. 35 in the UK album charts upon its release. However, the band went onto win Best New Band at the NME Awards that year. The NME later placed the album number 70 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, whilst Rolling Stone magazine placed the album number 61 on its list of the 100 Greatest Debut Albums of All Time and number 94 on its list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the 2000s.

The title is a phrase used by English comedian Tony Hancock, of whom the Libertines' Pete Doherty is an avid fan. In Hancock's Half Hour, "Up The Bracket" is a slang term meaning a punch in the throat.
