The UK's highest court will hear arguments today on whether Holyrood can set up a Scottish independence referendum without the agreement of Westminster.
In her closing address to the SNP's annual conference in Aberdeen the first minister told delegates that if she gets the green light from the court the issue will be put to the people. But the UK government opposes this. First minister Nicola Sturgeon wants to hold such a vote on 19 October 2023.
