Baldness, Beauty and Me

When Lizi Jackson-Barrett developed alopecia in her 40s, she learned to accept it, found a self-confidence she'd been looking all her life and now wants others to rethink beauty.

After an incident at school which shattered Lizi Jackson-Barrett鈥檚 confidence in her appearance, she spent much of her life chasing what society thinks of as beautiful. Only when she suffered from Alopecia at the age of forty, did she find confidence in herself and her beauty. She urges society to question engrained ideas of what beauty is.

鈥淚 can鈥檛 remember ever crying as much as I did in those first months of being bald. I felt a grief that was deeper than any I鈥檇 known before. Everything I鈥檇 ever done felt so pointless: I鈥檇 spent my entire life trying to make myself look 鈥渞ight鈥 and now I was further from that goal than ever.鈥
