'I considered quitting nursing over racist abuse'
Beverly Simpson says she considered quitting nursing over racist abuse and calls on the health minister to take action to protect health care staff.
A Derry nurse who was racially abused at work has urged the Health Minister, Robin Swann, to take action to tackle racism towards healthcare staff. Beverly Simpson said she was subjected to hours of abuse during her shift. Ms Simpson, a nurse for more than 25 years, said it made her consider leaving the profession. The Department of Health said racism in the healthcare sector was totally unacceptable. The Royal College of Nursing called for root and branch reform of how the authorities deal with physical and verbal abuse towards health care staff.
