Oliver Sim in conversation with Steve
Steve Lamacq chats with Oliver Sim about his new solo album - Hideous Bastard. They discuss the record's themes, working with Jimmy Somerville & Oliver's love of Horror Films.
Steve Lamacq chats with Oliver Sim about his new solo album - Hideous Bastard - which will be released on 9 September through Young.
Sim formed The xx in 2005 alongside Romy Madley Croft and Jamie xx - with the band going onto release three albums - xx in 2009, Coexist in 2012 and I See You in 2017.
It is a collection of songs produced by bandmate Jamie xx and inspired by Sim鈥檚 love of horror movies and his own life experience. On the album Sim says: 'There is no resolution. There are tons of open-ended questions that I suppose are only answered by me existing and putting out the music. I had a real wobble in the middle of making the album when I wondered if I was perpetuating this idea of the self-loathing homosexual. That's not what I am trying to do. When I鈥檓 at my most self-loathing, the last thing I'm doing is talking about it. The fact that I'm writing about these things and putting them out into the world is the opposite of shame to me. I don鈥檛 see this record as being a Debbie Downer.'
Plus, Steve continues the National Anthem search as we're after a song to soundtrack a current news story, there is brand new music from Dry Cleaning, and another 3-4-Tea mix at 5pm as Steve picks a trio of tunes, old and new to get us past 5pm.
