Lord Lovat's Lament
Gary West brings you more music of the bagpipes, with tunes from Scotland, England, Canada and Australia, including the 18th century pibroch, Lord Lovat's Lament.
Gary West introduces an eclectic mix of bagpipe sounds from Scotland, England, Canada and Australia, including a set from one of the greatest players of all time, Donald MacPherson, who passed away a decade ago and who would have been celebrating his 100th birthday this year. There are tunes too from the Simon Fraser University and Victoria Police pipe bands, as well as a duo and trio of pipers drawn from their ranks respectively. And for our pibroch this week, Gary looks to the music of the 18th century to bring you a performance of a tune composed to lament the execution of the leading Jacobite, Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, as performed at Blair Castle by Canadian supremo, Bruce Gandy.
