A chat with composer Gavin Bryars

Ahead of his performance with the RSNO at Sonica Festival 2022 in Glasgow, legendary British composer Gavin Bryars talks to Jamie about his music.

Legendary British composer and double bass player Gavin Bryars joins Jamie to talk about his music and his first time conducting in Scotland with the RSNO, premiering his Viola Concerto (A Hut in Toyama) and performing his iconic work Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, at Sonica Festival 2022. Jamie’s Album of the Week comes from pianist Edna Stern, recording Schubert’s Impromptus and Moments Musicaux to analogue tape - embracing its unique sound and the unedited imperfections and excitement of whole takes. Plus there’s music by Beethoven, Purcell, Brahms and something perfect for the Six Nations Rugby by Arthur Honegger.
