"They didn't wait for them to get frayed..."
Sean remembers how men put leather patches on brand new coats.
"Do you remember men used to have their shirt collar turned?" says listener, Gerry.
"Yes," Sean says. "I remember that surely!"
"It got a bit frayed, and it made the man look a bit down at heel, even when he wasn't."
"I understand," Sean says. "And also, do you remember men would have worn sports coats and they had leather around the cuffs?"
Janet says she thought it was around the elbow, for patches.
"Yes! Think about it, they got a brand new coat, and they put the leather patches on the brand new coat! They didn't wait for them to get frayed!"
With music from Martha and the Vandellas, The Archies, Joe Fagin, and more.
