Harrison attempts to get to the truth and Mia faces a personal struggle.
Chelsea ambushes Mia on the school bus, boisterously trying out make-up on her for the Mystery Plays. Hating it and embarrassed, Mia lashes out with a comment too far. Later at rehearsals Chelsea blames Mia for making her look bad in front of Lynda, who’s disappointed the make-up isn’t sorted. Chelsea points out her part in getting Blake to talk to the police, and accuses Mia of being too quick to judge others. Lynda breaks them up just as Mia’s calling Chelsea an attention seeker, and pulls her up on her behaviour. Mia bursts into tears. Lynda takes her aside and apologises for her brusqueness. Mia admits Chelsea’s point has hit home – she’s just a virtue signaller and nothing she does makes any real difference. She wishes she was more like Lynda. Lynda galvanises Mia, giving her some tried and trusted Snell tips on fighting for a cause.
Blake opens up to Harrison, with an advocate, Yvonne, for support. With gentle prompting he gives an account of his and the other slaves’ experiences after being sold on by Philip. The disturbing and traumatic recollections distress Blake. At the end of the session Harrison reassures him he’s safe. And with everything he’s told them, there’s a good chance they’ll find Kenzie now. They encourage Blake to consider his own future options. Harrison wonders how Blake will move on, but Yvonne from the charity assures him they’ll look out for Blake now.
