Prof Sir David Omand

Edi in conversation with to the former director of GCHQ. Born in Glasgow and educated at Glasgow Academy he talks about the challenges, personal and professional that he has faced.

When Prof Sir David Omand joined GCHQ as a raw recruit in 1969, because it was such a secret organisation, he had little idea of what the hush-hush British intelligence and security agency actually did but he had embarked on a glittering career as a public servant, taking him into the worlds of secret intelligence, foreign affairs and security. After working at the ministry of defence for several years, he went back to GCHQ as director, then was called back to Whitehall to run the 成人快手 Office, before devising Britain鈥檚 counter-terrorism policy as The UK鈥檚 first security and intelligence coordinator.
Born in Glasgow and educated at Glasgow Academy, in this rare and fascinating interview, he talks to Edi about the challenges, personal and professional that he has faced in life. Not least, telling Margaret Thatcher on March 1982, that GCHQ had intercepted and deciphered three messages from the Argentine navy, that left no doubt that they planned to invade the Falklands.
