Hollywood actor Mark Strong chats to Gary about starring in Temple on Sky Max. Mark played Jim Prideaux in the 2011 remake of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in 2001, and is often cast as cold, calculating villains. Temple is a British medical drama that revolves around Mark鈥檚 character Daniel Milton, a surgeon who runs an illegal clinic below the St. Mary le Strand Church and Temple tube station. The first series premiered in September 2019.

John Whaite and Johannes Radebe look back on another weekend of drama from the Strictly dancefloor. John's best known for his spectacular Great British Bake Off win back in 2012, taking the title when he was just 23 years old and in the middle of studying for a law degree. Post Bake Off, he went on to study Patisserie at Le Cordon Bleu in London and opened his own cookery school in the heart of the Lancashire countryside in 2016, alongside making many appearances on our telly screens. He's cooked up a storm on Lorraine, This Morning, Sunday Brunch, Chopping Block with Rosemary Shrager and, most recently, Steph's Packed Lunch.

Plus Gary plays three disco classics from his personal collection in the Disco Ball at 8.30!

Along with Claire Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Gary and the team have the best start to your morning.

There's also a Pause For Thought from Nick Baines and your calls, texts, emails and voice notes as Gary entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

So, we start this week with new Covid restrictions - just at the point when we were hoping to emerge into a brighter world. And, yet again, we have to learn to wait for the day when the misery will - somehow - pass. In the meantime, the uncertainty drags on - perhaps inviting us to learn that this is normal for most people on this small blue planet.听It鈥檚 perhaps fitting, then, that today marks the twentieth anniversary of the death of George Harrison and this month the anniversary of his great post-Beatles album听All Things Must Pass. He got it, didn鈥檛 he? Everything is transient, everything changes, seasons come and go. You can鈥檛 come to terms with living and losing, longing and 鈥 er 鈥 laughing without accepting first that all things must indeed pass.

For me this is built in to the rhythm and seasons of the year. Yesterday marked the start of Advent in the Christian calendar. What now follows is a rather weird exercise in learning to wait (as if we don鈥檛 know what鈥檚 coming) whilst actually knowing how the story goes. That the people have been waiting for centuries for God to come among them again: praying, longing, looking for signs. They try to make sense of their story in the light of what is happening now, but it doesn鈥檛 seem to compute. Then a baby is born in Bethlehem and the world is taken by surprise.

But, and this is the point, we don鈥檛 know that yet - not in Advent. So, we Christians try to re-live that waiting experience, trying to be open to being surprised when Christmas eventually comes - that God鈥檚 coming could have been a bit more impressive 鈥 than a mere baby born in an obscure village in a corner of the Middle East.听And that鈥檚 the point. As the Welsh poet RS Thomas put it: 鈥淭he meaning is in the waiting.鈥 In other words - and for a generation that wants everything now: Advent slows us down, makes waiting active and not empty, and leaves us open to surprise. All things must indeed pass, George, but the story ends with a comma and not a full stop.
